Local Airmen graduate from basic training
Air Force Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Deanna P. Shimoda-Nakasone and Air Force Airman Kaeo T. Mateo recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas.
The airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Shimoda-Nakasone is the daughter of Andrew A. Nakasone and stepdaughter of Kimberly Kalili of Hilo, sister of Adrian Nakasone of Kailua-Kona, Jacob Nakasone of Las Vegas and Josslynn Nakasone of Kailua-Kona and granddaughter of Beverly Huddy of Manoa, Oahu, Edwin Shimoda of Manoa and Anngie T. Nakasone of Ewa Beach, Oahu.
She is a 2006 graduate of Kapolei High School in Kapolei, Oahu.
Mateo is the son of Sara P. Melendez and Thomas C. Mateo, and the stepson of Cacique Melendez, all of Hilo and brother of Kai Melendez. He is the grandson of Violet and Calisto Mateo, and the nephew of Rae Cabatu of Hilo.
He is a 2013 graduate of Waiakea High School in Hilo.
